Top Biggest Transfers in the 2025 Summer Transfer Window

The 2025 summer transfer window closed temporarily on Tuesday, June 10th, 2025. While the 10-day period did not exactly bring us the drama and uncertainty that comes with a full transfer window, it was still a very important one for all the big clubs. 

As the new edition of the Club World Cup kicks off, a number of teams have had to use this transfer window to build squad depth to compete in the tight schedule of games that are coming up. Unsurprisingly, a number of interesting deals went down, and our football expert, Kate Richardson, went over the biggest ones in the rest of this article. 

Mattheus Cunha

• Transfer Fee: £62.5m

Manchester United had a very disappointing 2024-25 season, and the coach and the club’s management have been promising not to let it repeat itself. Clearly, they have no monetary restraint when it comes to meeting this goal because the club paid off Cunha’s release clause to secure the transfer of the forward from Wolves.

Dean Huijdsen

• Transfer Fee: £50m

Real Madrid is known for its aggressive moves when it comes to getting its target players. By paying out the 20-year-old Spaniard’s release clause with £50m, the club got themselves a center back to add to their already formidable defense. Even though Bournemouth got a fair payout from the deal, they are left without their star defender going into the new season.

Tijjani Reijnders

• Transfer Fee: £46.5m

While other clubs are complaining about the tight schedules caused by the Club World Cup, Manchester City chose to solve their problem by going on a spending spree to boost their squad depth. Reijnders spent only two seasons playing midfield for AC Milan before answering Pep Guardiola’s call to put on City’s blue for a change.

Reijnders has since spoken about potential changes to his game play following the move to Manchester City.

“Am I afraid that the ‘freedom’ in my game will be lost under Guardiola? We’ll have to wait and see if that happens,” Reijnders said. “There’s always room for development, in every respect, especially as a midfielder. There are so many things you can develop. I can become a more complete midfielder there, if the deal goes through.”

Jean-Clair Todibo

• Transfer Fee: £33.7m

Against all odds, West Ham completed the transfer of the star center-back, Todibo, from Nice by activating their option to buy clause in the loan agreement they had with the French club. After his successful run with the club while on loan, they considered him a necessary addition to the team.

Rayan Ait-Nouri

• Transfer fee: £31m

Ait-Nouri’s five-year spell at Wolves was cut when Manchester City came with their big offer to kick off their 2025 summer transfer window spending. Pep Guardiola has seen a use for the left-back on his team, and we can only wait to see how perfectly he fits in.

Rayan Cherki

• Transfer fee: £30m

While Cherki is just one of City’s big transfers this summer transfer window, this is the 21-year-old’s first official transfer of his career since he has only gotten actual professional experience in Lyon. His proficiency as an attacking midfielder is what drew City’s attention.

Speaking of his dream move, Cherki said, “I have worked so hard for this all my life. I love this sport, and I can’t wait to develop further here in Manchester with Pep and his backroom staff.”

Liam Delap

• Transfer fee: £30.5m

Delap joined Ipswich Town from Manchester City last year, and even though the club was relegated, his twelve goals already made him a top target for a number of clubs. Chelsea were the winners of the race to sign the 22-year-old striker, and they agreed on a six-year contract while Ipswich Town retained a sell-on clause.

Jeremie Frimpong

• Transfer fee: £29.5m

Since Bayer Leverkusen’s invincible run in 2024, a number of their top players have been targets for top clubs across Europe. The club’s star right back, for instance, Jeremy Frimpong, was crucial in the club’s 2024 campaign and even the 2024/2025 season. As Liverpool had to let Trent Alexander-Arnold go to Real Madrid, they quickly activated Frimpong’s release clause from Leverkusen to make up for the space on their right wing.

Estevao Willian

• Transfer fee: £29m

Even though this transfer is just taking effect now, Chelsea already had an agreement in 2024 that was immediately activated once he was 18 and eligible for an international transfer. The total package for this deal could go as high as £52m, but anyone who saw Willian play club football in Brazil knows that this investment could prove to be very important later on.

Jobe Bellingham

• Transfer fee: £27m

Jobe Bellinghand signed for Dortmund from Sunderland at just 19. The signing of another Bellingham, five years after his brother, is a fairytale event that you’d typically find in entertainment stories. This time it is real, and Dortmund’s sporting director is positive that the transfer will take the club forward.
